Ok, not quite that bad but it is Yellow Jacket and Hornet season. Yellow Jackets can make nests in the ground, in wall voids, in hollow trees/logs and sometimes they build their nest out in the open just hanging on a tree branch or the eaves of a building. Bald-Faced Hornets (closely related to yellow jackets) may build their nests at the same places but they tend to prefer out in the open hanging from a tree or the eaves of a building. In SE Tennessee we also have European Hornets that prefer to nest in the voids of trees, logs, and sometimes walls voids. Each nest has its own personality. Yellow Jackets may be very aggressive when treating or they may not. Bald-Faced Hornets tend to be very aggressive and can be very organized in the defense of their nest. I have witnessed them working in pairs following the spray stream of my gasoline powered rig back to me and attacking me as I treat the nest to kill them. They were literally working like you would imagine an Air Force fighting squad would work together. The attacks were coming in pairs with a hornet flying on each side of the spray stream more than 30 feet to find and attack its source............me. European Hornets can be even more aggressive than the Bald-Faced Hornets. It is best to treat and kill the nest(s) especially when their activity is interfering with human activity in the area. This also lowers the chance of another nest being built nearby the following year. When you treat a nest you kill the queen(s) that will over winter in the area and start a new nest in the spring if left alone. You may get lucky and be able to take care of the nest with an over the counter spray but you run the risks of getting stung once or multiple times. Over the counter sprays often don't work and may only kill a few of them but not the whole nest. So it was a wasted effort. Even some commercial pesticides labeled to kill these creatures sometimes doesn't work. As a professional I have the experience and knowledge to get them the first time and you don't have to do anything but relax while I take care of the problem for you.
